Ethiopian Human Rights Council (EHRCO) is the first non-governmental, non-profit making, non-partisan and membership-based organization legally registered by the Ethiopian civic society Agency with registration number 1146 and is currently working as a human rights civil society. EHRCO was established in October 1991 by 32 founding members from academia, business, and other professions. EHRCO is an organization that strives for the establishment of a Democratic system, the prevalence of the Rule of Law, and Respect for Human Rights.

EHRCO works in situation monitoring, investigating, and reporting on Ethiopia’s human rights situation at its core. Furthermore, EHRCO investigates, documents, and reports on (often serious and widespread) human rights violations and has specialized in targeted monitoring such as prison, trial proceedings, free legal aid, and election monitoring. Additionally, EHRCO is involved in various projects and programs focusing on human rights and other issues related to human rights

1. Human Right Officer (Addis Ababa Office)

  • Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Based on the guidance of his/her section head, the Human Rights Officer is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities.
  • Employment Type: The employment type is contract employment. There will be a very high possibility of extension at the end of the project.
  • Employment Duration: The employment duration is 10 Months ( July 1, 2022 – April 30, 2023).
  • Duty Station: The duty station for the employment is Addis Ababa with a frequent chance of going to project implementation sites.
  • DEPARTMENT: MDR Department
  • REPORTS TO: Monitoring and Investigation Section Head
  • Requirements : Qualifications / Education : LLB, BA in Human Rights, International Relations, Political sciences, and related fields;
  • Training on Human Rights and human rights investigations.
  • Experience : Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in human rights-related jobs.
  • Necessary Technical skills 
  •  Well organized and gives attention to detail with advanced analytical skills;
  •  Computer skills particularly in statistics software and other common software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; o Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
  •  Firm belief in teamwork, gender equality, sensitivity to HIV/AIDS, participatory approach, and sustainability;
  •  Proficiency in English and local language both verbal and written.
  •  Utilizing programming and statistical software (such as SPSS) to compile data and information for various systems, and knowledge of basic monitoring and evaluation and research tools;
  • Deadline: 27th of June 2022

Position 2: Project Coordinator (Project Management Head)

  • Employment Type: The employment type is contract employment. There will be a very high possibility of extension at the end of the project.
  • Employment Duration: The employment duration is 10 Months ( July 1, 2022 – April 30, 2023).
  • Duty Station: The duty station for the employment is Addis Ababa with a frequent chance of going to project implementation sites.
  • DEPARTMENT: Program Department
  • REPORTS TO: Deputy Executive Director
  • Qualifications: LLB, or MSC/MA / in Law, Social Science, Management, project management, Political Science, Sociology and related fields
  •  Education/Training: Training in Human Rights, project management, and organizational leadership.
  • Experience managing donor-funded projects with several different local and international partners
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years experience in project management-related jobs and at least 1 year in a managerial position.
  • Experience in the area of Governance and private sector engagement.
  • Prior experience with UNDP/UN system would be an advantage;
  • Outstanding communication, project management, and organizational
  • skills;
  • Familiarity with the working environment and professional standards of international organizations;
  • Working experience with Institutions involved in community empowerment;
  • Experience in working with NGOs and civil society, and with participatory approaches

Position: 3. Monitoring & Evaluation Officer

  • Employment Type: The employment type is a contract employment. There will be a very high possibility of extension at the end of the project.
  • Employment Duration: The employment duration is 10 Months ( July 1, 2022 – April 30, 2023)
  • Duty Station: The duty station for the employment is Addis Ababa with a frequent chance of going to project implementation sites
  • DEPARTMENT: Program Department/
  • Reports to: Program Coordinator
  • Education/training : LLB Law, Human Rights, PSIR and other related fields, Bachelor degree in Social Science, Statistics or other related fields.
  • Knowledge of statistical software for both quantitative and qualitative data
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years experience
  • Job-related experience in monitoring and evaluation, mainly in non-governmental organizations.
  • Necessary Technical skills 
  •  Well organized and gives attention to detail with advanced analytical skills;

Position: 4. Term of Reference for Conducting Assessment Research on IDPs

  • This research must consider the following as the scope:
  • The assessment will be done in 3 IDP camps in Afar, Amhara, and SNNPR each with consideration given for the reasons for displacement and possible sustainable solutions.
  •  The study will focus on the Human Rights of IDPs ( Mainly the right to physical security and Integrity, the right to basic necessities of life, and the rights to civil and political protection) in the selected regions.
  •  Legal and institutional gaps that hinder the rights of IDPs in Ethiopia.
  • Consultant(s) that are interested and qualified in this work are required to have the following qualifications:
    • Proven Experience in conducting evidence-based, quality, and standard assessment research,
    • Proven Experience in executing research projects related to IDPs/other vulnerable groups,
    • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the legal, socio-economic, political, and cultural context of IDPs in Ethiopia,
    • Solid experience and extensive knowledge of Ethiopia’s national legal instruments on IDPs,
    • Strong dedicated team with suitable experience and qualifications
  • Deadline: June 28, 2022,
