Embassy of Japan Scholarships 2027 for International Students: Ready to Free Study in Japan in 2025? The Embassy of Japan in foreign countries and the Government of Japan are accepting applications from international students to apply for the Embassy of Japan Scholarships 2026.
The Japanese Government Scholarships are open to Bachelors, Masters, and PhD Students to complete any of their degree programs at Japanese universities. During the Scholarship, all the expenses will be covered by the University and the Government. This is a Fully Funded Scholarship to Study in Japan. The Japanese Scholarships are available in almost all the Universities of Japan. It is one of the prestigious and top Scholarship.
Applicants can apply for the Scholarships in Japan without IELTS. The Japanese Government don’t ask for IELTS as well as Knowledge of Japanese language is not mandatory. No Field restriction. You can choose one of 5,769 Bachelor programs at 898 universities, 3,596 Master programs at 653 universities, and 1,263 PhD programs at 266 universities in Japan. Studying in Japan is much cheaper to other countries. Their degrees are exception and recognised in the world.

Japanese Government MEXT scholarships 2027
Last date to apply for the scholarship is 29th May 2026.
NOTE: Due to the large number of applications received every year, we are unable to confirm receipts of documents. Only the shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an exam and interview. Any inquiries made as to why someone has not been shortlisted will not be entertained. Only complete applications will be considered for the scholarship.

   Monbukagakusho, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers various scholarships for non-Japanese nationals wishing to study in Japan. In Ethiopia, the Ministry offers scholarship programs for Research Students, Undergraduate Students and College of Technology Students.
Guide line for MEXT Scholarship 2027
1. Eligible Nationality
Only those with Ethiopian Nationality can apply through the Embassy of Japan in Ethiopia. Non-Ethiopian citizens need apply through the Japanese Embassy/Consulates in their country of citizenship.
2. Types of Scholarship
The Embassy of Japan in Ethiopia only offers:

3. Submission of the application
All the application documents need to be sent by postal service to the address below. Submitting applications by hand or Email is not acceptable. The deadline for applications to reach the Embassy is by Friday 29 May, 2026. Â

4. Point of Attention

・Copy of Graduate Certification with Original University stamp that Embassy can accept as Original Graduate Certification.
・Transcript with student copy is fine, but it needs Original university stamp.
・Recommendation letter needs Original sign and Original stamp.
・Please read the guideline carefully before you apply to make sure you meet all qualifications required.
・Documents submitted are non-returnable.
・All application documents need to be typed. Hand written application would not be accepted.
・All documents have to be printed out vertically with A4 paper.
・Photo should be glued, not stapled.
Screening process
- Document Screening
Applicants must submit sets of documents as enumerated in Application Guideline to the Embassy of Japan no later than Friday 29 May, 2026. Incomplete application and application received after this date will not be processed.
- Written Examination (1 June TBD)
Those who pass the Documentary Screening will be invited to the Written Examination.
- Interview (14 July TBD)
Those who pass the Written Examination will proceed to Interview Session.
*Written Exam and Interview will be conducted physically in the Embassy of Japan in Addis Ababa on two days in a row.
- Issuance of Passing Certificate for the Primary Screening
Those who pass the abovementioned process are issued a Passing Certificate for the Primary Screening to be apply for Japanese universities.
2. Secondary Screening
The Secondary Screening will be conducted in Tokyo, based upon the evaluation of the examination and application set submitted to the Embassy. There will not be any physical exam or interview in this process.
This screening will be conducted worldwide competition.
